THE SUNDAY TORNADO tore through southeast Alabama in Lee County with the city of Beauregard suffering destruction and loss of life along with the city's of Auburn to the Northwest and Opelika to the North. Many of the homes destroyed were unable to stand against the category EF4 Tornado with winds estimated to be around 160 mph. This storm was part of a powerful system that swept through parts of Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.
